Hi Lynne -
I am a friend of Rose Hollander – was principal for her kids in Suttons Bay. I have attended a workshop you taught, and we’ve met socially several times.
I am independently publishing a picture book – about to print and due out by late spring. I have a bunch of questions, but I don’t feel I know you well enough for any favors. I do hope you’ll look for it come June, and if you like it, let me know.
It’s called Chickadees At Night, Charles Murphy illustrating.
A thousand apologies…. I’m contacting 20 authors and getting weary! Obviously I pasted in the wrong title above. “As Easy as Falling Off the Face of the Earth” has been nominated. Actually, so has “Love, Aubrey” but I believe Suzanne LaFleur will want to know about that more than will you!
Yes… please delete that first one! Or don’t allow it to post. As long as you know is my only concern!
I apologize again. It is a long, but lovely weekend when the annual list is created. And I try very hard to directly contact authors digitally since the list goes on our website tomorrow. We used to send letters, and still follow up with them… but it is water under the bridge these days!
I just read your book, As Easy As Falling Off The Face Of The Earth. It was amazing! I loved how it was set in third person, and how I feel like I really got to know all the characters. The plot was so interesting and it was fun to see Ry and Del work through every conflict that came their way. I want to be an author when I grow up and I will always use you as a role model for when I begin to write. I can’t wait to read more of your books!
I am already in the middle of All Alone in the Universe, the book I got today, and I am amazed at the content. It is really good, and I can’t wait to read more books! I am totally using your books as my writing role models!
I loved your books All Alone in the Universe, and Criss Cross! I thought they were both outstanding books, and I look forward to reading more books by you. I read them last year in fifth grade and they are still on my “Top Ten Favorite Books” list.
Just finished Criss Cross, picked up from a thrift store-but a Newbery! (Congrats!). I really enjoyed it. You had some nice surprises in it-I thought it was going in a predictable way, and then “zing!”. Thanks for a great, nice, clean, coming of age story. I’m a secondary-Ed-teacher-in-training and always looking for good books for my lessons/shelves. Thanks for writing, and drawing, one! :,)

Hi, Bill — I had a conversation with Charlie about your book — I look forward to seeing it.

Thanks for the great news! (I’ll admit the first message had me a little baffled.)

Thanks, Summer,
I’m glad Criss Cross found a home on your shelf. Also glad you’re going to teach — my hat is off.
